The characters and monsters in 3D anime had a rich form of expression and development process. In terms of development, 1961's "Rendering of a Starfield" marked the beginning of 3D computer animation. The early experimental works laid the foundation. In the 1990s, Pixar's "Toy Story" opened the era of 3D animation. In terms of creation, there were 3D cartoon monster background images created by Qianku Network designers. They used 3D characters and 3D illustrations as the main design elements, adding cartoons, monsters, and other elements. There were also anime characters created by artists using special methods to create 3D visual effects. For example, the Japanese artist X86 Natsuki hand-painted anime characters with 3D visual effects, using visual differences, specific shooting angles, cutting and folding paper, and other methods to make 2D photos appear 3D. In terms of the specific characters and monster images, Shrek in the movie was an ugly but kind green monster. The 3D image in the animation had a different appearance after it became a real person.
