What are the types of shooting competitions?Shooting competitions were usually divided into four types.
The first category was the pistol event. The six events included in the World Shooting Championships were slow fire pistol, rapid fire pistol, air pistol for men and women, standard pistol, imported pistol, and center fire pistol.
The second category was rifle events. There were 20 men's individual and team events, and 6 women's individual and team events. The main events included 60 prone shots from small-caliber rifles, 3x40 shots from small-caliber rifles (three positions: lying, kneeling, and standing, with 40 bullets for each position), 60 shots from air rifles, etc. The women's rifle events included 60 prone shots from standard small-caliber rifles, 3x20 shots from standard small-caliber rifles, 40 shots from air rifles, etc.
The third category was the flying saucer shooting competition. It was a competition in which a double-barreled shotgun or a single-barreled semi-automatic 12-gauge shotgun was used to shoot at a disc-shaped target thrown by a target thrower, which was made of a mixture of asphalt and plaster. The competition was divided into eight rounds, each round of 25 rounds, and the competition ended in three days. The events included a skeet competition (shooting at targets thrown in a fixed direction from the target rooms at both ends of the fan-shaped range) and a trap competition (shooting at targets thrown by 15 target throwers in the moat).
The fourth category was moving target shooting, which was a shooting competition that simulated hunting of beasts. The moving target was a "running pig" pattern, with the pig's heart as the 10 rings. The distance was 50 meters and 10 meters. The 50-meter segment was divided into a fixed speed standard speed and a mixed speed that was sometimes fast and sometimes slow. The athlete had to complete the whole set of actions of raising the gun, tracking, aiming, and firing within 5 or 2.5 seconds.
In addition, the International Shooting Federation held individual world championships for flying saucers, moving targets, and air guns in the years when the Olympic Games and the World Shooting Championships were not held. The World Shooting Championship was organized by the International Shooting Federation and was the highest level of shooting sports. There were 52 events for men and 14 events for women. Athletes in the Olympic Games usually participate in pistol, rifle, moving target, and flying saucer events.
