Radiation Island was a survival adventure game developed by ATYPICAL Gaming, which was released on January 29, 2015. This was an open survival game with a nuclear theme. Players were trapped in a parallel, alternative reality.
The game was set during World War II. When the American warships attacked the Japanese army on an island in the Pacific Ocean, they were destroyed. The protagonist played by the player was the only survivor. After the protagonist wakes up on the beach, he is on an empty island with Japanese facilities. He needs to use the resources on the island to survive and explore the depths of the island to discover the secrets of the island.
The gameplay includes hunting wild animals, fishing, or collecting fruits to overcome hunger; mining minerals to obtain resources to make weapons, tools, and basic transportation; finding hidden treasures, equipment, and light weapons; and surviving in a dangerous world full of radiation, anomalies, bad weather, and angry zombies. Players can explore vast forests inhabited by wolves, bears, and mountain lions, investigate abandoned villages and old barracks with important tools, weapons, and puzzle clues for zombie guards, and swim and dive, but avoid hungry crocodiles. The game had a complete day and night cycle, and players had to face the dangers of darkness and cold.
The game adopted a first-person perspective, and there were three levels of difficulty to choose from, including simple mode (with enough living matter, no loss of items after death), normal mode (basically no starvation, losing some weapons after death), and difficult mode (lack of living matter, everything withered after death). In terms of game controls, the virtual circles on the left and right sides of the screen controlled movement and perspective respectively. There were action command buttons above the circles, and actions such as attack, construction, and collection were completed according to different commands. There was also an automatic navigation button that could predict danger and automatically lock onto prey. The function status bar included content such as manufacturing, life, hunger, and backpack. The initial backpack only had six slots. By killing wolves and tigers, one could obtain a leather portable backpack or a locker to store items.
