The structure of a slug
The body structure of a slug was generally divided into three parts: the head, the torso, and the feet. There were two pairs of antennae on the head, the lower pair of short antennae (about 1 mm) was called the front antennae, which had sensory function, and the upper pair of antennae was about 4 mm long, called the back antennae, which had eyes at the end. There were horny teeth and tongues in the mouth. The upper part of the back was covered with an oval mantle. The front and back of the mantle were often free, but some types of mantle covered the whole body. When the mantle was cut open, a thin and transparent oval calcareous shield (degenerate shell) could be seen. The breathing hole was located at the edge of the mantle on the right side of the body and could lead to the mantle cavity. The feet were below the body, with obvious circular grooves separating the head and torso. The feet were smooth, and the belly of the feet was called strolling. Some species even had small tail pits on the feet. The reproductive hole is behind the right antenna.
