There were two famous movies about the pier. One was the American film, The Dock, which was a love crime film inspired by Malcolm Johnson's Pulitzer Prize-winning article, The Dock Crime. The film was released in 1954 and told the story of the corrupt and evil forces at the New York docks in the United States. The dock workers were awakened and rebelled under the lead of the former boxer Terry Malloy. The film won many awards at the 27th Academy Awards and was one of the first twenty-five films to be listed in the National Film Registration Office by the Library of Congress. It was also included in the 1998 American Film Institute's list of the "100 Best American Movies of the 100 Years."
The other was India's " Dock," a 1958 black-and-white film set in a slum and Gangkou District of Bombay. The film told the story of a heavily indebted fisherman, Badu, who was in deep debt after his ship was destroyed by a hurricane. In order to support himself and his son, he had a conflict with the gang leader in the slums and became a thief. The film adopted a realistic style, using real scenes and natural light to convey the realism of slum life and port work. It also used a variety of shooting techniques and symbolic metaphor techniques to highlight the theme.
