Angus Bethune is the central character in the story. He is likely an individual with his own unique personality, dreams, and challenges.

Norman Bethune was born on March 3, 1890, in Gravenhurst, Canada, to a pastor's family. His grandfather was a famous local surgeon, and his parents were both Christian. The Christian spirit dominated the family life. When he was young, he was bold and curious. He often dissected flies and chicken bones with a knife to make animal specimens. Due to his father's frequent job changes, he often dropped out of school and eventually graduated from the high school of Tang 'ang Gorge. When he was a teenager, his family was not well-off. In order to live and study, he worked part-time jobs such as a restaurant waiter and a ship cook to earn tuition fees. Out of respect and nostalgia for his grandfather, he was determined to study medicine and was admitted to the University of Orlando in 1909.
