There is an old folklore about the Children of the Forest. They were mortal spirits who were the First Benders with the ability to travel freely to the spirit world and to the human realm. Each with their own element of air, water, earth and fire. They were one with their elemental animals and travelled the spirit and human realm freely. Fire Lord Azulon was one of the very few humans aware that this folklore was more than a mere legend, although slightly altered, but factual. He sought out dragons and in one of his searches he found a Child of the Forest with a Fire Element by sheer unfortunate luck and after defeating her, he imprisoned her. (Y/N) was seen as the key object of victory within the Fire Nation and a driving force of power to their legacy and supremacy but to Zuko she was not a weapon of mass destruction or a spirit creature; she was so much more. As the Sozins Comet approaches and the Avatar Aang prepares to face Firelord Ozai with the help of his friends, it's clear that Zuko and (Y/N)'s paths are more far apart than they know. ***Please keep in mind that these characters were not originally created by myself and some of the elements in the story are taken from the nickelodeon cartoon, "Avatar: The Last Airbender." This is a Zutara fanfiction that picks up right after Zuko's notorious Agni Kai against Azula. But instead of the original ending(that results in the pairing of Aang and Katara), we see the spark that ignites the undying love between Katara and Zuko. After Azula aims her lighting at Katara, instead of Zuko who it was originally meant for, he doesn't hesitate to throw himself in in front of Katara. He saves her life and risks his own in the process. They then share a passionate moment during the aftermath, in which Katara realizes her true feelings towards Zuko. She can't believe that Zuko risked his life for her, and she can only hope to return the favor.
