A Homeward Path Unknown
My hope of finding my parents was completely shattered, because just as I rushed to the designated meeting spot, they were struck and killed right in front of me.
I returned home, utterly devastated, only to hear the voices of Silas Vaughn and his confidant on the phone coming from the entryway.
"Last time it was a falsified DNA report, this time it was a staged car accident.
President Vaughn, you've really gone to great lengths to prevent Zara Lowell from finding her family."
I curled up on the sofa, feeling my breath catch as I heard these words.
Silas Vaughn took off his jacket, his voice weary yet resolute.
"This is the last time. Zara Lowell will never be able to find her biological parents again."
His confidant sighed.
"Why must you do this? In truth, letting Miss Lowell reunite with the Sterling family won't affect Miss Sterling's position."
"No, if Zara Lowell is welcomed back by the Sterling family and steals the affection of Mr. and Mrs. Sterling, Nina will be sad again."
Silas Vaughn immediately cut in, his tone exceptionally grave.
"That's why I had no choice but to arrange for Mr. and Mrs. Sterling to fake their deaths in front of her. In three days, they will go abroad and never return.
As for Zara Lowell, I have already promised to marry her."
His confidant was a little taken aback.
"Then what about Miss Sterling?"
After a moment of silence, Silas Vaughn finally sounded as if he had deflated.
"As long as she can be happy, I'll be content."
