The strawberry leaves were black, and the back was also a little black. It could be caused by many reasons. ** 1. Disease ** 1. ** Gray mold ** - Gray mold was a common disease of strawberries. It was easy to occur in high humidity and high temperature environments. Botrytis infection can cause the leaves to turn black, and symptoms may appear on both the front and back of the leaves. - Control measures: Spray with a suitable disinfectant, and pay attention to maintaining the ventilation and dryness of the strawberry growing environment. 2. ** Leaf Spot Disease ** - It was caused by leaf spot fungus infection, which would cause strawberry leaves to turn black. Both sides of the leaves might be affected. - The solution was to cut off the infected leaves and spray them with the corresponding solution of cyanothalonil or thiophanate. The spray would continue for about 1 - 2 weeks until the branches and leaves recovered. ** 2. Pests ** 1. ** Aphids and Mites ** - Aphids and mites were common strawberry pests. They sucked the juice of strawberry leaves. When there were too many of them, they would cause the leaves to turn black. This could happen on both sides of the leaves. - Treatment method: Spray with suitable pesticide and regularly remove the weeds around the strawberry plants to reduce the breeding of pests. ** 3. In terms of environmental factors ** 1. ** Illumination problem ** - If the light was too strong, such as being exposed to strong light for a long time, or being directly exposed to the air in summer, it was easy to cause a large loss of water in the leaves and branches, resulting in blackening. Both sides of the leaves would be affected. - The solution was to move the plants to a cool, semi-shady place and avoid direct sunlight during the hot summer season. 2. ** Too high humidity ** - Too much humidity would increase the growth of germs and pests, which could cause the leaves to turn black, and symptoms could appear on both sides. - [Countermeasure: Control the humidity and keep the strawberry growing environment well-vented.] ** 4. Nutritional aspects ** 1. ** Undernourished ** - The growth of strawberries required sufficient nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. If these elements were lacking in the soil, the strawberry plants would have black leaves. Both sides of the leaves might turn black. - The solution was to apply fertilizer at the right time during the growth of strawberries to supplement the lack of nutrients. ** 5. Watering and fertilizing ** 1. ** Too much or too little watering ** - When watering too much, the strawberry roots were shallow, which was easy to cause problems, causing the leaves to turn black. Too little watering often caused the soil in the pot to be too dry during the growing season, and it was also easy to cause the branches and leaves to grow poorly and turn black. These two situations could cause the front and back of the leaves to turn black. - Treatment measures: Pay attention to drainage when watering too much; after watering too little, keep the soil moist after watering it in time. 2. ** Inappropriate fertilizers ** - If the fertilizer was too heavy, such as using fertilizers with high nitrogen content (such as chicken manure, etc.) or quick-acting compound fertilizers, it was easy to cause root burns and blackening of the leaves. This situation might occur on both sides of the leaves. - Solution: Use reasonable fertilizers to avoid excessive or inappropriate fertilizers. Read more exciting novels for free
