Use vivid descriptions. Instead of just saying they met at a place, describe the place in detail - the smells, the sounds, the look of it. This will draw the reader in. For the characters, describe their expressions, their body language. When they talk, use dialogue that sounds natural. Don't make it too formal or stilted. And include some twists and turns in the plot. Just when the reader thinks they know what's going to happen, surprise them.
