The Hollow Seraph
The sky did not break all at once.
It began with a sound—soft, almost beautiful. Like glass singing.
A young boy with white hair and an empty life stood amidst the approaching calamity, looking up.
The sun… was wrong.
It stretched, twisted, and then... cracked.
Light poured through the fractures, not warm nor holy, but cold… ancient. and judgemental.
Then the Angels came.
Not with wings of salvation, but with silence.
They descended without a sound, their Halos flawless, their eyes empty. The ground beneath them withered, grass turning to ash before their feet ever touched the earth.
Someone screamed.
Then everyone did.
The boy ran.
He didn’t know where. There was nowhere to go.
The first beam of light erased the village gate. Not destroyed — erased. As if it had never existed. As if memory itself had been corrected.
“unholy,” one of them said.
Its voice echoed inside his skull.
“godless”
His mother’s hand slipped from his.
That was the moment everything became quiet.
Too quiet.
The boy turned, and saw nothing. No blood, no body, no trace she had ever lived. Only hollow absence was left where she had been.
The Angels had declared themselves profane and godless, for reasons the boy had yet to uncover. They descended with a halo, the Halo of fractured and twisted light that devoured and erased everything.
Then... something went terribly wrong. The Halo changed. It became dark and sinister, as if corrupted by some other unknown force. The Angels who had been flawless, were flawless no more. The Halo acted with its own purpose, devouring grief, sorrow and pain of all those who lost their loved ones.
Everyone the broken Halo touched, bled Memories. They bled hymns, gospels and parts that had once worshiped and revered the Divine.
The Angels reeled back, their now flawed halos reflecting something dangerously close to fear.
When the jagged Halo came into contact with the boy, something inside him broke.
