THE LAST TRAIN BY SAMUEL MALINGA & AURI
Title: The Last Train
Authors: Samuel Malinga & Auri
On the hottest day in recorded history, in the sleepy commuter town of Cedar Falls, several lives converge at the station for the 8:15 AM Northstar Express. Each passenger carries a private world of hope, regret, and secrets. Among them is James Liam Jr., a dishonored ex-cop running from the ghost of a teenage boy he shot dead; Eleanor Vance, a retired professor seeking order after a life of quiet compromise; Leo, a gifted young artist fleeing a suffocating past; and The Miller Family, whose picture-perfect vacation masks a foundation of quiet strain.
They board the train seeking escape, connection, or simply a change of scenery. But as the Northstar pulls away from the platform, the world outside begins to burn. Not a wildfire, but a global, apocalyptic inferno. Cities are ash, fields are oceans of flame, and their train becomes a solitary, silver ark hurtling through a brand-new hell.
Sealed in a pressurized, climate-controlled tube, the survivors believe they are the lucky ones. But refuge quickly becomes a prison. The train's soothing AI, The Voice, can only maintain the illusion of normalcy for so long. As panic and claustrophobia set in, a new threat emerges: a killer is among them, methodically targeting passengers.
Haunted by the life he took, James must shed his shame and become the cop he once was to unmask the murderer. But his investigation is hampered by the survivors' distrust of him and tormented by shared, waking nightmares—vivid, psychic visions where each passenger is forced to confront the people they've wronged or the loved ones they've lost.
As the body count rises and the world outside smolders, the survivors are forced to ask: which is the greater threat—the killer stalking the cars, the apocalyptic fire outside, or the ghosts they've brought aboard with them? The last train is hurtling into the unknown, and its passengers are running out of time to discover if any of them are destined to survive.
