The film was adapted from a true novel of the same name. During the Battle of Iwo Jima, the US military landed on the island three days after the bombing of Iwo Jima. This scene was photographed by reporters and sent back to China, greatly boosting the confidence of the American people. However, this was actually the second time the flag was raised.
