There are many folk stories in Wuyuan.

There was a story about Jiang Bangji. His name was Daoqing, and his name was Qingzhou. He was from Jiangwan, Wuyuan, Anhui Province. He had lost his father when he was young and was raised strictly by his mother, the Zhan family. He was filial and kind by nature and gladly accepted his mother's blame. He was studious and knowledgeable in classics and history. He taught his students diligently and tirelessly. He was generous and liked to give alms. In his later years, influenced by his son's study of Buddhism, he also had confidence in Buddhism, especially praising Wang Rixiu's "Longshu Pure Land Text." He fell unconscious when he got out of bed in the morning of 1925. After his family rescued him, he said that as long as the phlegm was removed, he would be fine. His family chanted the holy name of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva in hopes of saving him, but he was already old. In the end, his family advised him to make a vow to return to the West and devote himself to chanting the Buddha to seek a pure land. He passed away peacefully after more than an hour of chanting.

There was also the story of Yang Xi in Ziyang Town, Wuyuan. It was said that the young scholar Yang Sheng was well-read but came from a poor family. When he was on a boat trip in Yang Xi, he met a fairy. The two fell in love at first sight. Due to the pressure of his family, Yang Sheng could only love the fairy silently. The fairy turned into a rainbow and appeared on his desk to help him pass the examination. Yang Sheng then embarked on a trip to the capital to take the examination and eventually became a minister of the imperial court. When he saw the rainbow, he would think of the fairy and feel grateful and nostalgic.

In Chaguan Village, there was a stone arch bridge built in 1135, also known as the Widow Bridge. In the story, Wang Mao's daughter, Wang Fengxia, was beautiful and smart. She often went to her uncle's house. On the way, she had to cross a river. The temporary bridge over the river was often washed away by flash floods. After a temporary bridge was washed, the small stonemason wanted to carry her across the river. Zhan Bang appeared to stop him and proposed a sedan chair plan. The small stonemason teased Zhan Bang to let him build a stone bridge. Zhan Bang said that if the stone bridge was built, the small stonemason would withdraw from the pursuit of Wang Fengxia. Wang Fengxia recognized this agreement. The small stonemason said that if the bridge was not built on New Year's Eve, he would bear the bridge silver and Wang Fengxia would marry Zhan Bang.

In addition, there was the story of Yu Niang in Huizhou. The old temple she lived in was a small village in the mountains of Huizhou in southern Fujian. Yu Niang and her daughter, Chun Yue, were outsiders. Her family was called the Wild Cherry Family. Yu Niang made a living by sifting sand. She devoted herself to her daughter Chun Yue. Even though life was hard, she still encouraged her daughter to study. However, Yu Niang fell ill when the New Year was approaching.
