Why was Yunlu Academy hated by Renzong?
When Renzong was in power, the position of the crown prince was vacant. Renzong planned to make a prince born of a concubine as the crown prince, but he was opposed by all the civil and military officials in the court. The scholars of Yunlu Academy led the civil and military officials in the court to fight against Renzong many times. Later on, a scholar from Yunlu Academy, Cheng Hui, took over the position of Chief Assistant Minister and joined Renzong to resolve this matter. However, he proposed to establish the Imperial College, and from then on, the Imperial College replaced the White Deer Institute as the main transportation agency of the imperial court. Renzong realized that Yunlu Academy was not conducive to imperial rule, so he hated Yunlu Academy.
