The Classic of Mountains and Seas was an ancient China book with rich content. The book had a total of eighteen volumes, including five volumes of Mountain Scripture, four volumes of Overseas Scripture, four volumes of Ocean Scripture, four volumes of Great Wilderness Scripture, and one volume of Ocean Scripture.

The content recorded the situation of mountains and rivers at home and abroad, foreign countries, people, treasures, plants, animals, etc., and also mixed with the contents of gods, ghosts, and destiny, offerings, witchcraft, and so on. For example, in the South Mountain Sutra, the first mountain series was called Magpie Mountain. The first mountain of the Magpie Mountain Formation was called the Squealing Mountain. This mountain was located on the west coast. There were many laurel trees on the mountain, and it was rich in metal minerals and jade. On the mountain, there was a kind of grass called Zhu Yu, which looked like chives and had green flowers. You wouldn't be hungry after eating it. There was a kind of tree that looked like a Broussonetia papyrilla tree and had black veins. It was called Lost Valley, which shone brightly in all directions. You wouldn't get lost if you wore it. There was also a kind of wild beast that looked like an ape. It had white ears. Sometimes it crawled and sometimes it walked upright. It was called a bird. You could walk as if you were flying after eating its meat. This was the birthplace of the water of the beautiful muntjac. It flowed westward into the sea, and the water was fertile. Wearing it could prevent abdominal caking.

Three hundred miles to the east is the mountain of the court. There are golden flame trees on the mountain, mostly white apes, water jade and gold. There were also the Guyi Mountain, Guyang Mountain, Di Mountain, Dan Yuan Mountain, Ji Mountain, Qingqiu Mountain, and so on. Each mountain had its own unique products, plants, and animals.

The first mountain of the Huashan Mountain series in the Xishan Sutra was Qianlai Mountain. There were many pine trees on the mountain and many washed stones at the foot of the mountain. There was a kind of sheep that looked like ordinary sheep but had a horse's tail. Its oil could care for dry skin. There were also Songguo Mountain, Taihua Mountain, Xiaohua Mountain, Fuyu Mountain, Shicui Mountain, Ying Mountain, Bamboo Mountain, Fushan Mountain, Yuci Mountain, Shi Mountain, Nanshan Mountain, and so on.
