Sir Alex Ferguson's layoffs lead to controversy
You might have some misunderstandings. It was Manchester United who made the layoffs and cut Sir Alex Ferguson's head, which caused controversy. In order to cut costs, Manchester United's new shareholder, Ineos Group, took a series of measures, including laying off more than 250 employees and canceling employee benefits. In the process, in order to continue to reduce operating costs, Ineos Group informed Sir Alex Ferguson in a meeting that they would terminate the annual 2.16 million pounds Manchester United global ambassador contract signed with him in 2013 after the end of the season. After that, Sir Alex Ferguson would only retain the empty position of the club's director. The decision sparked a lot of controversy. Manchester United was a powerhouse club with a long history and glorious tradition. Sir Alex Ferguson had coached Manchester United for 26 years, won 38 championship trophies for Manchester United, and founded the Red Devils Dynasty. Although it was reasonable to save 2.16 million pounds from an economic point of view, it was still considered a lack of respect for history. For example," King " Cantona denounced this behavior as shameful. Moreover, Manchester United quickly dismissed Sir Alex Ferguson, but hesitated about the dismissal of the current manager, Tenghag. This contrast was also criticized. In addition, although Sir Alex's total assets were considerable, and he did not care about losing his ambassador's income and accepted the decision amicably, this action still caused widespread controversy in public opinion.
