Yang Jian, Erlang God, Xiansheng Zhenjun
Yang Jian had many identities and images in myths and legends. In the mythological system of folklore, there were many versions of Erlang Shen's original form. Scholars debated endlessly about his origins, including Li Bing's son Zhao Yu, Zhang Xian, Yang Jian, and so on. Erlang God, also known as the Lord of the River and the God of the River, was an important figure in folk beliefs and Taoism. The people who believed in him first gathered in Dujiangyan City, which was closely related to water conservancy, agriculture, and flood and drought prevention. After the middle and late Ming Dynasty, its image gradually formed the appearance that we are familiar with now, namely, three eyes, holding a three-pointed double-edged knife, and carrying a Xiao Tianquan. In the Investiture of the Gods, it was clear that the Erlang God was called Yang Jian and had three eyes. However, in the original novel of Journey to the West, the description of Erlang God did not mention that he had three eyes, nor did it indicate that his name was Yang Jian. It only mentioned that he was Erlang of the Yang family. In addition, Yang Jian had other images, such as the eunuch Yang Jian at the end of the Northern Song Dynasty, as well as images in different cultural works such as the Japanese manga "Investiture of the Gods", the animation "Legend of the Gods in the Immortal World", the mobile game "Inhumane Academy", the movie "Legend of Yang Jian in the World of the Gods", and the animation "Inhumane". These images had their own characteristics and showed different abilities and personality traits under different story backgrounds and plots.
