"The Past of the Border Waters" mainly told the story of an adventure between a young man who accidentally entered the Three Slopes of the Foreign Land and a big shot who was strategizing in the dispute between many forces.

When the protagonist Shen Xing first arrived at Sanbian Po, he was full of fantasies. He and Guo Limin initially just wanted to work to earn money to support their families. However, this was actually a dangerous place. Local power was greater than national law. The police were corrupt and there were frequent cases of missing people. After Shen Xing's uncle, Shen Jiandong, went missing to collect the project funds, in order to pay off the wages that his uncle owed the workers, Shen Xing used the heavy machinery in the factory as collateral to borrow from the loan sharks. This caused a series of crises. First, he owed the loan sharks, and then he was framed for murder. The underworld and the underworld were looking for him.

Guo Limin was originally a kind and honest person, but after a series of events at Sanbian Slope, he gradually changed greatly. He had been bullied by the casino's security captain, Lei Ming. This experience had dealt a heavy blow to his body and mind. He began to give up his dignity, and his personality and behavior became difficult to understand.

Shen Xing had gone through different mental stages. At first, he was frightened. He witnessed the murder of Maung Pa, the stabbing of Uncle Chai, and the revenge of Dantuo. He experienced the chaos of Sanpo and was afraid of becoming a scapegoat for others. After escaping death, he entered the acceptance stage. He was loyal and won Uncle Chai's recognition. Uncle Chai paid off the loan sharks for him, but he had to run and transport goods to pay off the debts. He began to change his view of Uncle Chai, but he ignored the fact that people and things related to drugs were not clean.

In this Sanbian slope (referring to the Golden Triangle area), different characters had different symbolic meanings. For example, Shen Xing was like a panda in Sanbian slope and was the group's favorite and had successfully survived several dangers. Uncle Cai seemed cold but his love for his deceased wife was like a white peacock.
