2008 and 2022 Olympic mascots
The mascot of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games was the Fuwa, designed by Han Meilin, a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University. The Fuwa were five close friends. They were shaped like a fish, a panda, a Tibetan antelope, a swallow, and the Olympic flame. Their names were "Beibei,""Jingjing,""Huanhuan,""Yingying," and "Nini." They were homonyms for "Beijing welcomes you," which also meant "Beijing welcomes you." At the same time, they also embodied the traditional China philosophy of "five elements" and integrated the characteristics of the modern Olympic rings. The mascot for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics was "Ice Dun Dun," which was designed based on the giant panda. The shape of the head of the ice block was taken from the ice sports helmet, decorated with colorful halos, and the overall image was similar to an astronaut's. Its design combined the image of a giant panda with an ice crystal shell, reflecting the characteristics of winter ice and snow sports. The colorful halo on the panda's head was inspired by the National Speed Skating Hall of the Beijing Winter Olympics-"Ice Silk".
