The author of the book was the Dutch writer Robert Van Gulik. Van Gulik was a diplomat, sinologist, and novelist. He spent 18 years writing this mystery novel with Di Renjie, the prime minister of the Tang Dynasty, as the protagonist. He wrote this series of detective novels in English from 1950 to 1967, and the novel was very popular in the Western world and was translated into many foreign languages. With Di Renjie as the protagonist, the book narrated his legendary experience of being an official in the state, county, and the capital. He solved many mystery cases, including the Golden Mystery Case, the Lacquer Screen Mystery Case, the Chaoyun Temple Mystery Case, the Bronze Bell Mystery Case, the Red Pavilion Mystery Case, and the Labyrinth Mystery Case. The story was adapted from the novel of the same name by the Dutch diplomat, sinologist, and novelist, Van Gulik. The novel took 18 years to write and was about 1.4 million words. The TV series " Da Tang Di Gong Case " was aired in 2024. It was starred by Zhou Yiwei, Wang Likun, Zhong Chuxi, and other powerful actors. It was highly anticipated.
