Robert H. Van Gulik was the author of The Case of Duke Di of Tang Dynasty. He was a Dutch diplomat, sinologist, and novelist. He was born in August 1910 and died in September 1967. Van Gulik was extremely interested in traditional Chinese culture. He had a wide range of research fields and was proficient in fourteen languages, especially in Sinology. He spent 18 years writing The Case of Di Gong of the Tang Dynasty. This novel took Di Renjie, a famous official of the Tang Dynasty, as the protagonist, describing his legendary experience of being an official in the state, county and the capital. Gloroppe's works were widely welcomed and translated into many foreign languages, causing a sensation in the Western world.

" The Legend of Di Renjie's Case " was a TV series filmed in 1986 and 1996, with a total of 64 episodes. The play was strictly based on the original work of the Dutch writer, Gulik van Gulik, and was different from the later TV series, Detective Di Renjie.
