Jian 'an literature refers to the literary works created by Cao Cao, Cao Pi, Cao Zhi and others during the Three Kingdoms period (about 200 - 220 AD). Ercai referred to the famous writers Cai Yong and Cai Yan at the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty. Their literary works were mainly prose and poetry. The most famous works included "The Story of Parrot Island" and "Grief and Anger Poetry".
