There were many poems about the moon in Dream of the Red Chamber. The most famous one was Jia Baoyu's lament when he watched the lanterns on the night of the Lantern Festival: ``` Lantern Festival night, Grand View Garden trial lights Jia Yuanchun's Inscription of a Poem to satirize the Servant in the Main Hall ``` In this poem, Jia Baoyu described the beautiful scenery of the Lantern Festival Grand View Garden, including the light of the moon: ``` The moon is round, the moon is curved The moon hung in the sky. The stars in the sky are crystal clear A bright moon shone on the mountains and rivers. ``` In addition, there were also descriptions of the moon in other chapters of 'Dream of the Red Chamber', such as Lin Daiyu's sigh when she drank alone under the moon: ``` Daiyu Drinking Alone The silver river is far away, and we meet in the dark with golden wind and jade dew. I can't get drunk, but I'm going to say goodbye. When I say goodbye, the river is full of moonlight. The flowers in disorder are gradually mesmerizing, and the shallow grass has no horse hooves. I love the withered trees in front of the door most, shining out of the deep courtyard without anyone's trace. ``` In these poems, the moon has become a symbol of emotion, expressing the sadness of parting or the impermanence of life.
