In the movie, why did Iron Man not want others to hand things to him directly?

I remember there were two scenes in Iron Man 2 where Tony didn't want people to hand him things directly.
One of the scenes that I remember the most clearly was when he went to buy strawberries for Little Chili. The seller was about to hand him something, and he said, I don't like people giving me things, please put it there.
Why? Is there a reason? Could it be that the first episode involved it?
