What did the G20 summit talk about?
The G20 (or G - 20 or Group of Twenty) is an international forum for the governments and central bank governors from 20 major economies. It was founded in 1999. Its aim is to study, review, and promote high - level discussion of policy issues related to the promotion of international financial stability. It also tries to address issues that are beyond the responsibilities of any one organization. Since 2008, G20 heads of government or heads of state have held summits periodically. From 2009 - 2010, they met semi - annually, and since the November 2011 Cannes summit, they have met annually. The first G20 Summit on Financial Markets and the World Economy was held on Saturday local time in Washington. At these summits, leaders from the G20, along with the UN Secretary General, and leaders of international organizations like the World Bank and International Monetary Fund may attend. The summits are held when the world economy and financial markets face serious challenges. For example, in one of the early summits, leaders issued a declaration saying they were determined to enhance cooperation and work together to restore global growth and achieve needed reforms in the world's financial system. As expected before some of the early summits, leaders vowed to implement reforms to strengthen financial markets and regulatory regimes to avoid future crises. In 2009, with the G20 growing in stature, its leaders announced that the group would replace the G8 as the main economic council of wealthy nations. However, since its inception, the G20's membership policies have been criticized by many intellectuals, and its summits have been the focus of major protests by anti - globalists, nationalists and others. The 19th G20 Summit, which is themed "Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet", will be held on November 18 - 19, 2024 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Russia's President Putin has announced that he will not attend this summit. Read more exciting novels for free
