Can you give an example of 'conditions may apply fanfic'?
Sure. Let's say there's a fanfic based on a popular fantasy book series. The 'conditions' could be that the fanfic writer can only use the main character's backstory as it is in the original books, but can create new adventures for the character. Another example could be a fanfic for a TV show where the condition is that it has to be rated PG - 13, so no excessive violence or adult themes are allowed.
One example could be a fanfic for a superhero movie franchise. The 'conditions may apply' might be that the fanfic must not introduce new powers for the main superhero without a proper explanation that aligns with the existing lore of the movie universe. Also, if the fanfic is being shared on a particular website, the condition could be that it has to have a certain minimum number of words, say 1000 words, and it has to be properly formatted with paragraphs and correct grammar. Another instance could be a fanfic for a video game. The condition might be that it can't change the basic gameplay mechanics of the game in the fictional story it creates.
For a fanfic based on a famous science - fiction series, the 'conditions may apply' could be that any new alien species introduced in the fanfic should have a scientific - sounding explanation for their appearance and abilities. Also, if the original series has a specific moral or ethical code, the fanfic has to follow that as well. For example, if the series promotes non - violence as a core value, the fanfic can't have the main characters engaging in wanton killing. In the case of a fanfic for a romantic drama, the condition could be that any new love interests introduced have to be developed in a way that doesn't undermine the original relationships in the show. And if the fanfic is part of a fanfic writing competition, there might be conditions like a deadline for submission and a specific theme to follow.
