Can you share some of the most memorable graphic design horror stories?
A really memorable graphic design horror story was when a designer was working on a packaging design. They had carefully selected colors to make the product stand out on the shelf. But when the actual product was produced, the colors looked completely different due to the type of material used for the packaging. It was a huge disappointment as the whole purpose of the design was lost. Another instance was when a designer worked on a website design and the client kept adding more and more elements until the site became cluttered and unnavigable. And once, a designer had a project where the client demanded a very specific font that was not available on most devices, which led to a lot of compatibility issues.
Sure. One memorable horror story is when a designer sent the wrong file to the printer. Instead of the high - resolution final version, they sent a rough draft. The printed materials came out looking very unprofessional. Another is when a client changed their mind about the entire concept of a design right before the deadline. The designer had to scramble to redo everything. Also, a designer once had a project where the text alignment went crazy when transferred to a different software for final production, and it took a long time to fix.
There was this one horror story where a graphic designer was hired to create a series of posters for an event. The designer worked hard to create unique and eye - catching designs. However, when the posters were printed and put up, it was discovered that the location details on the posters were wrong. It turned out that the client had given the wrong information, but the designer was blamed for not double - checking. Another story is about a designer who was working on a brand identity. They created a logo and brand guidelines, but the new marketing manager of the company decided to completely change it without any real reason, just because they wanted to put their own stamp on things. And in some cases, a designer might face issues with the aspect ratio of an image. For example, a design for a digital billboard looked great in the mock - up, but when it was displayed on the actual billboard, the aspect ratio was distorted because the designer didn't account for the specific requirements of that particular billboard.
