Why are the main characters of most novels useless now?

Different people may have different opinions. In some novels, protagonists may be considered useless because they perform poorly in certain aspects or because they have experienced some unfortunate or difficult things that make them decadent and helpless. However, this was not necessarily the case for all novels, because the theme and plot of the novel were different, and the image and performance of the protagonist would also be different.
