I have to say it simply since I can’t write a super long review so I’ll keep it short. This was amazing. Don’t judge the book from just reading the first few chapters. It isn’t basic. It has a refreshing plot and characters. Her writing greatly improves over the course of the book, so don’t be so harsh during the very first chapters. Her writing never deteriorated and only kept improving! The character development is amazing and it she actually tells many stories of many people in this one novel. That is what I like. She focuses and building every character. She writes of beautiful values and morals too. It makes me respect her as more than just a writer but a person. The story really has a a great plot. It isn’t as simple as you’d guess by reading only the start. You have to read the whole thing to be able to know what’ll happen. It’s the type of plot that keeps you guessing. In no way is this like any other historical novel. It’s wonderful and new. Like a breath of fresh air. I loved reading this and I’ve reread it at least four times! I really recommend it.

This is a fun series that acts like a western series taking place in a place like historical China. Although many historical Chinese series have themes like severe ***ism, women having no value aside from their appearances, relentless overbearing revenge, and rape becoming romance, this series has none of those and instead takes values that readers in English-speaking countries may be more likely to agree with. Although this is in a culture where women have limited rights, several female characters in this series stand up for themselves and overcome those norms. The MC is a general, another woman is a soldier who dreams of becoming a general, one is a empress leading her country, and yet another is a skilled and cunning information broker. Although I like Chinese series, this is the kind of series I would prefer to read. The characters are all fantastic, and several of them show depth, even if they're villains. It's great to see how they all grow and develop. The story development is excellent, and the plot really picks up after the second volume. Although some parts of this series are slow, it's doesn't drag things on. It would be nice if more description could be given for each of the various countries involved. They all just give the impression that they are each like each other and have the same government system and cultures without any distinctive features. The writing appears to be from someone who isn't a native English-speaker, and parts of it don't make sense. However, the edited chapters are much more coherent and easier to follow. That said, I still used a lot of spirit stones to catch up and would recommend this series for anyone liking a light, entertaining read.

His Masked Knight

"It is futile" Duke Allen spoke, his amber eyes glinting with unwavering arrogance. "How dare you!?" the crude looking bandit growled as he took another spare dagger. "Don't bother" a sharp, clear-cut voice slashed his thoughts. "My my Edgar, you are frightening the poor soul. Look, he is not bothering to attack with his dagger" Duke chuckled, lacing his words with superiority. It only took a slash to paint the gravel and the ground with bright red. The ground also witnessed a 'thump' and a rolling head. "Wipe that cocky smirk off. It's repulsive" the knight spat out, his eyes were filled with fury at the aloofness exhibited by his master. What would have happened if I were late? "That's not how you speak with your Master, but that's okay.." Duke said, closing the distance between him and his knight. "After all, you are" he slightly bent himself to whisper in the ear of his knight "my one-and-only Edgar Radford" his hiss sent sharp tingles through the knight's body. A rush of rosy hue brightened his white cheeks accompanied by a slight throbbing. ***** Aristocracy, a privileged class holding hereditary titles. The class of the most powerful members of society.
