The ability to remember depends on the strength of one’s power. Luna and Elysia can recall that Lily's powers were a menace, but they can’t say what they actually are. The others are aware that the conversation took place but don’t remember anything about Lily's powers—neither what they are nor how strong they were. If a normal person was present, even the fact that the conversation had ever taken place would slip from their memory—they simply aren’t strong enough to retain it. Roran wasn’t surprised, because after living with Lily for over a decade, he may not have been able to recall the details, but he could still make logical deductions. Deductions are different, as they are reasoned conclusions based on available information and are retained.

Even if it’s not obvious at first, each character in the story has their own hidden motives. What seems confusing or inconsistent at the start will gradually become clear as the story unfolds.
