yeah it's not like babies would know it's a scary place innately, they'd react to people around them being scared or stressed. so if a baby is with someone unfased by the place, they'd probably be fine until something scary actually happened. a normal baby would probably have some reaction (agitation or crying) when the screaming and crying maids were brought in.

so is there no like.... reason she was neglected? i have to assume the general attitude of the entire palace, not just those maids, was blasé towards the princess at best before this. like, the sudden immediate shift from "no one cares and i've never seen my father" to "daddy dotes on me and everyone adores me" is jarring at best, and while i abhor child neglect, i feel like some of those maids must have been bewildered, like "wait since when did anyone give a shit about the princess?" like i could see one or two people being lazy, but all of them? and a lack of guards? there was more systemic neglect happening and the maids are just taking the fall here.
