This novel has a knack to make horror stories... just add a bit more suspense here and there and probes... and you see the effect...

the only consolation is that it wasn't grotesque on a superficial sense... but can it be so simple. I am somewhat reminded of Mother Tree of Desire from LoTM, though it makes no sense to bring this reference in this context...
