Tinkerbell effect. If one is too lazy to search it up, the definiton is: “An American English expression describing things that are thought to exist only because people believe in them. The effect is named after Tinker Bell, the fairy in the play Peter Pan, who is revived from near death by the belief of the audience.” The concept is a lot more commonly used than people would think. For example: Noragami, Percy Jackson, American Gods and the like. Similarly, there is a reverse Tinkerbell effect, where the more one believes in something, the less likely it is to exist. But that’s not used much as it is not as easy to execute in stories. The Korean webcomic How To Kill A God actually shows a clever execution of the former. On how deities are inextricably linked to the beliefs of humans, and how their perceptions of Gods can change them slightly. An example of this is how in the story, a certain god’s name is forgotten except by a relative few, but still exists by being known as something else: A natural disaster, namely a hurricane. Because of that, the god’s existence was redefined as a disaster to humanity and lived because they believed that the god was a storm.
