considering how it's already 12 years since the beginning of the apocalypse and they only recently discovered the level 4 zombies unlike other zombie novels where it only take months for them to evolve to level 4, it's not surprising how the leap of strength between levels here. The leveling here must have been slow and hard.

I think author was being subtle about it but if you go back a few chapters (during the last Convo with Pippa), Mei Xing was describing the scent of GA and the Elder, so I'm assuming she's starting to become more sensitive to smell.

I feel like it just appeared at that time. Considering the flame-toothed dog's notorious reputation as being difficult to get along with, and Yaobao being close with Qiao Sang and being considerate enough to suppress its evolution for the sake of its beast tamer made the second evolutionary path appear. If you notice the name Flame Listening dog and having Psychic powers, you can see that from the 'listening' word itself and prior to its evolution, where Qiao Sang was telling it about the endorsement and Yaobao reflecting on the troubles it caused its beast tamer, causing it to suppress its evolution and making the second path appear. In short, it all goes down to the fire-toothed dog and its beast tamer's level of closeness that this evolutionary path appeared, and with their aggressive and difficult to control nature, it's no wonder they only have blaze hound as a path. *sigh*

UGHH, I feel so frustrated reading this.. I realllyyyy reaalllyyy hope Rika will have a major character development to at least stop associating herself with this kind of family and emotionally cut off her relationship with them.. I feel upset just reading how they treat her and I want her out of that toxic family sooner and faster, please.
