Yeah I agree with that one comment , make it somewhere else for. 7 years, do some chapters per year ( or more if u want to develop something, specially character relationships and power progress, maybe more time in the first years and last? Idk u do u, I trust your judgment) and then u come back, that way the tension and suspence won't be lost, yet you'd still have a good story development

Magic archer would go wild with this guy. His first weapon was a gun so he already has the basic aim, he is physical fit and the way he uses magic allways felt less wizard in robes and more magic rogue to me so I can't imagine him willingly staying put in Ionia for 7 years studying. So maybe a more untraditional magic education would fit him best, being forced to strive in here, for those years while learning magic more geared towards practical areas. U know the whole regual education VS Vocational school
