Mephisto is too strong for the current mc (in the comics his power is equivalent to Odin or half fed Galactus) adding the fact that they are in his home court / personal dimension (where he is nigh omniscient and omnipotent) his chance of winning is close to zero.

It would make sense as the portal leads to a 'random' location in the multiverse. It would be appear logical that his connection to the Ghost Rider would send him 'home' that would be hell dimension of the Marvel world. I have a sneaking suspicion the 'system' was Michael's original 'cheat' taken away by the Spectre when he reincarnated, it was less 'giving' him power but more so 'returning' due to some unspeakable reason. Cosmic entities in DC are rarely THAT generous.

I guess it's a type of weird camaderie in the sense A) They are both 'aliens' in a 'world' they cannot completely empathize with B) They both suffered through 'loss' of their families at the hands of lunatics C) They are both people who have lost hope and cannot truly fit in their new lives even after gaining a second chance As much as it pains me to say J'onn is probably the wisest, kindest and most honorable member of the justice league and at the same time he is the one with the least attachments to it. Not one member of the justice league truly tried to understand the guy who is (probably) the last of his race or even try to actively befriend and alleviate his loneliness 🤔. To be honest I think the Rider's influence is minimal at ensuring loyalty, most importantly J'onn probably saw himself in Michael and stopped resisting altogether. Ya'know kindred souls and all, the justice league practically threw the guy in the cell, marginalized and even forgot about him while Michael still came back for him 😢 rescued him and asked (not ordered) whether he wanted to go with him i.e. he respected his wishes. Say what you want about the mc he is a real bro!
