Sure, I like to imagine myself as the mc as well. Which means I don't mind a growth period. Nor do I mind if they struggle a bit but eventually overcome. Becoming strong is something everyone desires to some extent. On the other hand, I personally dislike edgelord chunni who hate the world, have no empathy, and walk over everyone around them. Scociopathic mcs, truely evil mcs, or rather chaotic evil mc are cringe worthy .. I can not relate to that. If they turn into an antihero, sure, no problem, but I rarely read a story about the villan unless there is something compelling about the story.
