There is a difference between following characterization and following canon, following characterization is having Superman act like Superman in a world heavily divorced from canon or even in a different one like worm, not following characterization is having superman eating kryponite because he’s suicidal after finding out about krypton, if a character doesn’t act like they normally should simply to let the mc do something they logically by the rule set by the setting and world shouldn’t be able to, and the world bends over to let the mc do something they by all logic shouldn’t be able to, that’s not creative, just poor writing
