Prologue I

On a cold sombre winter night, a small infant was left on the doorsteps of the Church of Vicars. The soft cries from the baby attracted the attention of the priest of the church. During the cold winter periods in the war driven Country Y, it was very normal for the priest to see mothers dropping their children off at the church. Unable to feed themselves, let alone their baby, they are forced to let them go to prevent the infant from starving to death.

The priests eyes were cold and lacked any emotion. It was unlike of him when compared to his appearance in the day. The always smiley priest was more like an asura of death at night. He watched the little infant in silence. The only sound that could be heard in the perimeter of the church on the hill was the bawling from the infant.

The unsettling eyes of the priest soon focused elsewhere. His head faced forwards as he witnessed the spectacular sight in front of him. Beyond the hill where the church stood, was a sea of orange. Flames raged tall and high as almost every building in the capital city of country Y burned. Smoke engulfed the sky, completely clouding the twinkling stars in the night.

The never-ending war continued in the country. This time, it had finally reached the capital city.

The priest looked back down at the little baby on his doorstep. Picking up the infant, he cradled the baby stiffly. He checked if they was a name left behind by the infant's parents. There was none.

Lifting the cloth that slightly covered the infant's eyes, the priest spoke a few words that the infant would never know about. "You are the first of your kind that would be coming to me on this fateful day. You shall be named Ash. Let that be a remembrance for the beginning and end of your life."

Turning around, the priest and the infant finally headed back into the church, not caring one bit about what was happening in the city.
