"It will be better for me," she blurted out, closing her eyes tightly as she waited for his response.
Jael stiffened and his expression hardened. "Are you worried about palers?"
Mauve's eyes flew open and she shook her head. "No, I am not. Besides, I don't think the fence would keep palers out."
She could barely recall him telling her that but she wasn't sure. Aside from that, she had seen a paler up close twice now. She knew a fence wouldn't keep one out.
The claws wouldn't easily climb the walls and if they were serious they wouldn't need to scale the fence; they could just bulldoze it down.
A brief memory of the force that hit her moving carriage sent shivers down her body. Her wounds would be a permanent indication of what Palers could do.
"You are right, it won't." He said, his tone a little icy.
