"Brilliant, searing pain from my right shoulder ripped me from my dream with a jolt. My body shot up in a sweating panic, the phantom pains of a meat hook still embedded deep in my skin. My breath stuttered as I grasped my shoulder, massaging the smooth and unbroken skin. My other hand trembled as it wiped the hot tears running down my cheeks."

"You want me to go without you?" Lucifer asked, stopping on his way out of the motel room. He closed the door softly and turned to face me. "Why? I'm not keen on going after a nest of vamps alone."

"I just…" I trailed off, falling onto the edge of the bed softly as I struggled for the words I wanted. "I don't think we should hunt them…"

"What are you talking about?" Lucifer questioned, stepping over to me. "They've killed countless…"

"I'm not going, Lucifer," I said sternly.

Confusion covered his face. "What's up with you? You've been acting weird the last few days. Are you sick or something?" I shook my head and lowered my face into my hands. "Then what is it, Elizabeth?"

I looked up into his gently blue eyes. I tried to find the words I needed to say. The words I dreaded to be true. The words he needed to know. But they wouldn't come to me. Lucifer came closer to me and knelt in front of me, his hand gently taking mine.

"Sunbeam, please talk to me." His voice was soft, filled with consent. His free hand cupped my cheek.

I took a deep breath, taking the comfort and strength from his blue eyes. "I'm….pregnant."

The room fell into a thick silence, and it made my stomach churn more than it had been in the last few days. I wanted to be sick. Just the way he was looking at me now was enough to make me doubt everything. I couldn't see what he was thinking. The quiet around us was deafening as it dragged on.

"Please, say something," I whispered, hot tears welling up in my eyes as I looked away from him. I nearly jumped out of my skin when he started to laugh and I turned to see a bright smile on his face.

"We don't have real jobs," Lucifer said, falling backward.

"That's what you're worried about?!" I demanded, standing.

Lucifer continued to laugh. "We don't have a house."

"Stop that!" I yelled. I looked at his face, the smile still plastered across it as he laughed on the floor. "I'm fucking leaving…"

"This is great," Lucifer said, ignoring me as I marched around him.

"Can you…" I stopped, mouth agape as I processed his words. "What?"

"You're not excited?" He got back to his knees, his hands taking my waist and pulling me closer until he could kiss my belly.

"Knock it off!" I ordered. Lucifer shook his head with that same stupid smile on his face. "I thought you'd be mad…"

"Why would I be mad?" He asked, getting to his feet. "I'm the one who did it. I'm not going to be mad. How far along are you?"

"I…" I licked my lips, thinking. "Maybe…maybe a few weeks? I'm not sure." Lucifer pulled me into him and kissed me deeply. I gasped for air when he finally pulled away from me. "You're taking this far better than I thought you would."

"I mean, there's a lot we gotta figure out now…But I want to do this," He said, his hands in mine. "With you. This is my second chance to do it right." He kissed my forehead. "If we can hunt monsters, I'm sure having one of our own won't be too difficult."

"You're sure?" I smiled, new tears coming to my eyes.

"Positive." He whispered, kissing me again.
