valentine's day

A/N. This is based after chapter seventeen when Emma first started liking Ashton, they had not gotten together officially yet.

Falling For You

Today was Valentine's Day. My parents were out on a date today while Alex and I stayed home. Carnations were handed out on Friday at school, I got a couple nothing too special.

I hadn't planned anything for today and Alex hasn't either. Isabel said she was out with someone, but didn't let me know with who.

A loud knock disrupts my thoughts and I hear Alex stomping his way downstairs saying he'll get it. As far as I know, neither of us was expecting anyone or anything to come by today.

I hear another male voice along with Alex before who I assume to be Alex stomping his way back upstairs. I get up off my bed to ask him who it was. As I get my door, Alex had just made it to the top.

"It's for you." He says walking to me.

"Me? What are you going on about?" I ask confused, stepping fully out of my room.

"Ashton is waiting for you." He says before turning. I couldn't believe what he just said. Ashton wanted to see me?

"What?!" I screech. I was not prepared for anyone to see me. Alex just laughs at me before shutting his door. Great.

I scramble around in circles before getting my head straight. I couldn't leave him down there any longer. I force myself downstairs as gracefully as I can, trying not to make too much of a fool out of myself.

"Ashton?" I say, my breath catching in my throat. He turns around at his name, roses in hand.

"-- and you brought flowers." I gape at them and then look up in awe at Ashton who is bashfully smiling at me.

"Nice outfit." He says smirking. I instantly look down at my pajamas and blush furiously. I stood in short pajama shorts and a t-shirt without a bra on. I could only imagine what my hair must look like.

I instinctively cross my arms over my chest and smile uncertainty at him. I clearly wasn't prepared to see him.

"Here." He says handing me the flowers, my brush grows as I take them, from him. I go to the kitchen to find a vase to put them in.

"Would you be willing to go out with me for a couple of hours?" He questions causing me to almost drop the roses in my hands, I quickly place them in the vase and fill it up with water before turning back to him.

"That'd be great." I smile,

"Do you mind waiting for me to get ready?" I bite my lip looking down at my pajamas again.

"Not at all." He replies sitting at the kitchen counter. I mumble a quick thanks before sprinting back upstairs to make myself presentable. I am beyond embarrassed that I greeted him looking like this.

As soon as I step into my room, I strip out of my clothes frantically looking for something cute to put on. My drawers easily get messed up as I go through them in my search.

After clothed properly, I go to my bathroom to see the situation I have with my face and hair. I brush through my hair thankful that I was showered. I decide against any makeup because it's time-consuming and it was already bad enough I wasn't prepared.

I slip my converse on and sigh as I head downstairs again. The butterflies in my stomach grew with each step I took down.

Ashton ends up driving us to a skating rink in town and I turn to him perplexed. I have never been skating before so this was going to be an experience.

"Here, put this on." Ashton throws me a sweatshirt from the backseat. I do as he says and step out of the car. The sweater was big on me, but not too much. The hem stops about mid-thigh and I'm currently sporting sweater paws.

"You're so small." Ashton coos at me, I push him away.

"Oh shut it, you're just huge." I smile back rolling up the sleeves so I can have my hands accessible. He rolls his eyes but smiles non the less as we walk into the rink.

He grabs the skates while I situate myself on a bench. There were already a bunch of people here, mostly couples skating together with a few kids circling around. Most of the girls seemed to be on the same page as me as they fall and grip to the walls for their lives.

Ashton takes the seat next to me and hands me my skates. I take my shoes off and put the skates on. The lacing was more difficult than I had anticipated it would be, it seemed impossible for me to get them tight at all.

"Need some help?" Ashton looks at me, I smile sheepishly back and nod. He tightens the laces without an issue and I pity myself for not being strong enough to do it myself.

He takes my hand helping me to my feet. I wobble a little but catch myself before I stumble. Not even on the ice yet and I'm already almost falling. I was not looking forward to the ice, that's for sure.

He steps onto the ice first and helps me on. I would've felt if the wall of Ashton wasn't here to support me. I grip onto the wall for dear life as Ashton takes my hand and steers me away from my stability. I end up wrapping myself around his arm scared for my well-being.

Kids were skating just fine around us and it was not helping in any way. I screech when I'm set free on the ice by myself. I manage to turn myself miraculously and glare at the devil himself who is laughing.

"It's not funny." I pout to him. "How would you liked to be pushed?" I threaten, even though everyone here knows I wouldn't be able to go afoot on my own.

"I'd like to see you try." He teases me. He was a good few feet in front of me, I had no idea how to initiate any movement.

Oh, fuck it. I move my right leg in hopes to move. He looks at me in shock as I slowly, but surely move in his direction. He moves before I get to him and I spin around to get back on my warpath.

I take a moment of him getting distracted by other people falling nearby to crash into him. What I didn't expect was for me to go down instead of my target. I quickly grab his sleeve before I'm all the way down and pull him beside me.

"Told you I'd push you." I smile innocently.

"More like pushed yourself down." He remarks laughing. I push him down from his seated position on the ice.

"Happy now?" I roll my eyes.

"Very."

"I think I'm falling for you." I say without thinking. My cheeks heat up in embarrassment at what I had just confessed.

His eyes meet mine almost after it comes out, and I look away in uncertainty. Oh god, what if he doesn't like me back? I shake my head, he wouldn't have come over today if he hadn't.

"I feel the same." A smile begins growing on my face after he says those words. "And I don't mean literally." He says looking down at our position. We both laugh and I shake my head at him.
