The next target of the aim was the comrade of the first fallen member of the explosive squad.
Having witnessed his comrade's death firsthand, his face was still splattered with dripping blood, reflecting his wide, trembling eyes.
He stared blankly at the squad leader, Shu, as if asking what had just happened.
Bang!
With another dull thud, his head also exploded.
Only a headless body faced Shu, splattering him with fresh blood.
"Get down!"
"Everyone, get down!"
Having experienced the Second Shinobi War, Shu quickly recovered from his brief stupor and shouted commands urgently.
He no longer cared if the Konoha ninjas in the camp noticed them.
That godlike attack was something they couldn't even locate the source of!
If they didn't take cover quickly, the entire explosive squad would be wiped out here!
Hearing the captain's shouts, the squad members quickly reacted and sought cover.
Unfortunately, it seemed futile.
That deadly blue flash appeared again!
As if playing a cruel game, this shot missed the vital spot and instead tore through the lower half of a squad member, erupting in a spray of blood.
"Aaaahhhh..."
The excruciating pain made him scream in agony, writhing on the ground, the blood dyeing the surrounding area red.
The commotion quickly alerted the Konoha ninjas in the camp, who immediately reacted.
"Enemy attack!"
"Prepare for battle! We're under attack!"
…
Realizing that the Konoha ninjas in the camp were now aware, Shu's eyes flashed coldly.
There was no longer time to plant the clay bombs fully.
"In that case..."
He took a deep breath, forming a hand seal.
Almost simultaneously, explosions and flames erupted all around, destroying many tents and supplies.
"Execute Plan B!"
"Abandon the setup, begin the direct assault!"
Shu ordered sternly.
"Yes!"
The remaining squad members, used to licking the blade's edge, suppressed their fear and followed Shu's orders.
Amidst the explosions, they formed seals and threw out quickly moving clay creatures.
Frogs, grasshoppers, toads...
These clay creatures detonated violently upon contact with Konoha tents and supplies.
Amidst the chaos of flames and screams, the Konoha camp descended into pandemonium.
…
Several kilometres away, Satoru watched the scene unfold through his Byakugan.
"So it's the Iwa Explosive Squad, huh?"
Seeing the explosions and clay bombs, Satoru instantly recognized their identity.
After all, this squad once produced a famous rogue ninja.
The art enthusiast, Deidara!
Instead of using his talents in the Tsuchikage's office to flirt with Kurotsuchi, he chose to join the Akatsuki and play with clay.
He called it art.
Satoru couldn't help but scoff.
Even body art can be art!
However, knowing their capabilities made things easier.
Explosive clay became useless when faced with Lightning Release.
Not only that, but any form of electricity could instantly neutralize explosive clay.
In the original series, Mifune used a battery to thwart Edo Tensei Deidara, turning his explosive starfish into a dud.
With a slight adjustment to his bullets, Satoru made them capable of releasing a large amount of electricity.
The barrel of his sniper rifle flashed blue once more, unleashing a burst of lightning.
…
"Explode! Explode!"
"Let everything be obliterated in the sound of explosions..."
Most members of the explosive squad found a unique thrill in the blasts. Hearing explosions, their adrenaline surged, bringing them an almost euphoric pleasure.
Suddenly, a blue flash streaked by.
It struck a hopping clay frog, and the lightning instantly spread, creating an electric net over all the clay creatures.
After a few twitches under the electric shock, the clay creatures went inert, reverting to their original clay forms.
The explosive squad members, expecting a grand explosion, stared blankly as if nothing happened.
Only the occasional crackle of electricity mocked their foolishness.
"What happened?"
"Where's the explosion?"
Just as these thoughts formed, the deadly blue flash reappeared.
Another member's chest burst open, lightning coursing through the wound, rendering nearby clay inert.
Then another...
This time, it was the abdomen, leaving a gaping, bloodied hole.
The bullets embedded in their bodies released arcs of lightning, neutralizing the clay creatures around them.
Third...
Fourth...
Fifth...
With the explosive clay neutralized, the assailant seemed to attack with renewed confidence, their attack frequency increasing significantly.
One by one, headless or shattered bodies fell, the gruesome scene overwhelming Shu's mind.
The once-feared explosive squad was now just a death squad.
Shu's pupils trembled.
He suddenly remembered an incident before the war started: Iwagakure had stationed an advance team in the Windmill Village of the Land of Grass.
One day, almost all scouts went missing, followed by the entire advance team disappearing.
Ōnoki was furious.
He dispatched numerous Iwa ninjas to investigate.
They discovered the bodies of the scouts near the Land of Grass, each killed with a single shot, metal fragments found embedded in their bodies.
Some scouts had been hiding underground when such attacks suddenly killed them.
The investigating Iwa ninjas found their bodies because the grass above them grew exceptionally lush.
Since then, every Iwa scout executed their missions in fear.
Especially those hiding underground, terrified that their comrades would find them based on the grass's growth.
The entire Iwagakure scouting division was shrouded in fear.
Shu gritted his teeth.
It was clear!
The person responsible for those attacks was the same as the one now!
Frozen Earth and his advanced team had likely fallen into this person's hands, too.
The same thoughts ran through Yellow Earth's mind on the battlefield.
His pupils trembled, staring blankly at the continuously sniping Satoru in the sky.
The barrel flashing with lightning confirmed his suspicion.
"So it was you..."
Yellow Earth gritted his teeth, his eyes bloodshot.
Though he had heard of Satoru's feats of sniping many Sand ninja leaders on the battlefield, back then, he used a bow and arrow, which didn't match the bullets found in the Iwa corpses.
Despite having suspicions, he hadn't been sure.
But now, this scene confirmed everything!
The one who killed dozens of scouts at the start of the war, instilling fear throughout Iwagakure's scouting division, was none other than Satoru!
