Da-Eun, a 24-year-old young woman gets transported back in time to the Joseon Dynasty by the prickling thorns of a rose. Can she find a way to go back to the present time, or will she stay at Gyeongbokgung Palace?
It's a rainy day as Da-eun is walking home feeling pity for herself. It was Valentine's, the day to celebrate love. But who would Da-eun celebrate with? No one. She thought to herself, "What's the point of Valentine's anyway?" she continued walking home. As she began to draw nearer to her home, she opened the door and threw the keys on a tray. She sank into the couch and turned on the TV. All she could do on Valentine's was throw herself a pity party. Suddenly she had a thought. "Maybe I should eat out. Yeah, that'll make me feel better!" she pulled herself together, threw on a jacket, and started the car. She drove until she found a restaurant.
"Table for one, please." she requested.
As she sat down, she wondered what to do with her life. Just then, a group of men walked towards her table. "Hey, gorgeous! Mind if we sit with you?"
Actually, I do mind, Da-eun thought to herself. But she let them sit down anyway as an act of courtesy.
"Why are you alone?" One of the men snickered.
"No reason," she smiled politely.
"Have you got a boyfriend? I bet I'm better than anyone you have, though," Another one called.
"Damn, this is seriously annoying," she murmured.
"What did you say?" The leader of the group yelled, grabbing her waist.
"Don't touch me," Da-eun exclaimed. She slapped him hard enough to make his cheek red. Others in the restaurant just stood idly by, not even helping her.
She seriously hated men. There was nobody with manners anymore. She then paid the bill and brought home a bottle of soju.
She called someone to drive her car home.
As she came in, suddenly she felt drawn to the garden. She walked towards it. As Da-eun continued walking, she noticed a rose. Not just any rose. This rose seemed to glow. She picked it up. Holding the rose in her hand, she felt a thorn prick her. She immediately fell and fainted. Her grandmother, who lived with her, heard her scream right before she fell down and came to her aid. She called 119, but it was no use. Da-eun slipped into a coma.
