the alpha’s unlucky mate

I looked around and all I could see were unfamiliar faces. Some people stared back wondering who I was because my pack wasn't that big so most people knew each other.

I went to the bar side and requested beer. There I sat wondering when my mate would show up. I had asked Mira how it felt when you find your mate and I was waiting for the same feeling to knock me.

I had come to the alpha's annual party hoping to find my mate like everyone else in this room. I took a big risk of sneaking out of my house, ready for the consequences as long as I found my mate and I was feeling pretty positive about it.

I could feel eyes on me and when I turned I saw a guy behind me sizing me up. He was classically handsome with short blond hair and blue eyes. I blushed as I looked away.

"Why are you sitting here all alone? The party isn't that bad." I heard a husky voice speak beside me and I turned to see the same guy with blonde hair and very pink small lips, he looked like he was in his mid-twenties.

"I am Maxwell by the way." He introduced.

"Blaire."

"I've never seen you around. Why?"

"I don't know. Maybe you don't know everyone.

"Yeah, but my friends do not know you either." I looked and saw a group of people looking at me.

"Well… I don't know."

"So I guess you came to find your mate, huh?" he asked.

"Isn't that the whole point of this gathering?"

He shrugged.

"Well yeah, that's if he exists. Have you found?"

"No, honestly I doubt mine exists too."

Maxwell was pretty cool, we talked and had some mutual interests. It was almost midnight and I still hadn't felt whatever thing I was supposed to feel when I found my mate.

I lost hope. Back to my misery, I said to myself as the thought of going back to my stepdad's wrath crossed my mind. I had to go look for Mira so we could leave, I laid my eyes on her and moved toward her she was by the exit.

"We need to leave it's midnight. I'm avoiding problems from Ben." Ben was my stepdad.

"Ohh yeah, I'm so sorry."

"It's fine. We both lost track of time."

"Who was the guy keeping you company?" Mira asked like she was expecting a positive reply.

"Maxwell. He is a cool guy."

"Was there any sort of connection?"

"Yeah. There was an instant connection but not in that electrifying way, we had a lot in common."

On our way out through the exit, something really strong and invigorating hit me, a scent so strong I couldn't ignore and walked past my heart beat raced so fast.

It was like a magnetic pull drew me closer to the scent. My wolf which had been dormant and inactive for years was excited, I was shook. All my senses heightened, my ears were longing to hear him speak and my eyes wandered.

"Blaire, what's going on?"

I ignored her and kept walking towards the scent.

"What has come over you, we need to leave. Now." She said in a hushed tone.

"Wait. I promise I'll be right back." I said still not looking back at her. I only kept moving forward.

I couldn't control it, my wolf was awake I hadn't been in touch with her in a long time.

As I walked I felt closer and closer to the scent, then I looked up and saw him. The most perfect man I've ever laid my eyes on.

His eyes were a deep shade of brown which held an intense gaze, his red lips were so small and curved, his dark hair wasn't so arranged but wasn't scattered too and his height was so intimidating. I felt so attracted to him I just stood there staring then I realized—

"My mate".

"Why are you staring at the alpha that way?" Mira hit me with her elbow and I snapped from my thoughts.

"The alpha?" I thought in my mind while my lips were still sealed. I've heard of the alpha but I do not know what he looks like. I know he is ruthless and mean but I didn't know he looked so good either way.

I was still lost in thoughts when he spoke up. "Who are you?" He asked. His voice was the most beautiful sound I've ever heard so deep, rough, and somewhat hoarse tone but yet soothing and sounded like music to my ears. I didn't want him to shut up. My wolf felt so excited to hear his voice.

"What's your name?" He asked again like I didn't understand the first question. I was still mute just staring then Mira brushed me with her elbow.

I don't know what came over me but I ran out of the room. I heard Mira calling out to me to stop but I didn't look back.

"Blaire! It's late already and it's not safe!" She shouted.

"I'll be fine!" I yelled back. At that point, I couldn't care less about how dangerous it was at that time of the night.

It was already midnight I was in some deep shit with my stepdad, I could already imagine the beating and scolding and frankly I was ready for it but that didn't mean I was used to it. It just was inevitable and I sure as hell wasn't counting on my mum for help or intervention.

Ben wasn't always like this, he was very loving and like a father to me but things changed and got really bad. Now, I was used to it.

I ran home thinking of what my fate would be and what just happened. The alpha my mate? Maybe it was the alcohol.

Still walking home, I heard some creepy noises coming from the woods nearby. I tried to ignore it and kept walking.

I got chills and goosebumps all over my skin, now I was aware of my surroundings and how dangerous it was.

"Who is that?" I asked in fear and my voice was shaky too. No reply. Who could be playing games at this time of the night, it sure as hell wasn't funny.

I looked in the dark with a fog and saw a tall figure walking towards me. I tried running back but he was faster than me.

Eventually, he caught me and gripped me firmly from behind and I was about to pass out when I saw his face.

"It's you," I said in something that was almost a whisper. Immediately my eyes went shut.
