Synopsis

Lilliana Russo, the eldest principessa of the Russo family, is now obliged to marry the most malevolent Don in New York City. Here, he rules like a king, and whoever opposes him meets a gruesome end. She wanted to run away and never look back like her cowardly mother did, but that had resulted in the most devastating feud between two of the most powerful Mafia families. No, she couldn’t let history repeat itself. ______ Vincenzo Salvadori wasn’t looking for love in this marriage. This was just an agreement to make peace with the Russos, as his grandmother had wished just before she drew her last breath. He conducted himself as a man of honor and even if he didn’t love his future wife, he would still respect this marriage. ______ “I-I have three conditions that I would like to put forward before this marriage takes place.” Lilly slowly lifted her eyes to meet his scorching gaze that seemed to burn into her skin. “Speak.” The deep calm in his voice made her shudder. She took a deep breath and straightened her back to appear confident. “First, I want to continue working as a doctor after the wedding. Second, after our marriage, we will sleep in separate rooms until I am ready to sleep with you, and third, I am not having a baby with you until I want to.” She breathlessly listed out, and nervously twisted the ring latched on the chain she wore. The corner of his devious lips tilted upwards and a flicker of amusement danced in his dark eyes. He leaned back on the antique sofa and brooded over what she said. Silence prevailed, so did the urge to take back her conditions and escape from his overbearing presence. “First and third, agreed.” He answered in an unsettling calm. “What about the second?” She questioned. “You are my wife. We WILL share the same room.” She wanted to open her mouth and object when he abruptly got up from his seat, immobilizing her objections. Her heart thudded rapidly as he closed the space between them, his enormous stature shadowing her petite form. His gaze had her locked in place and she failed to notice his hand reaching out to lift her chin. He neared to her face, his breath fanned against her cheek. “Or do you think I won’t be able to stop myself around you? If you do, you think too highly of yourself, Dr. Russo.” She gulped, growing thirsty for something she didn’t know for what. When his touch left her face, she understood what for. ‘Oh god, how am I going to survive alongside this devil?!’ _______________________ (This book is strictly 18+. Chapter 1A stubborn matriarch

Heads turned as the beautiful woman in an ivory white dress robed under a white doctor's lab coat walked into the Mansion gates. Her wavey brunette hair swayed as she took each graceful step, climbing up the stairs of the wide front entrance.

At the doorstep, another, much older woman greeted her. "Welcome to our abode, Dr. Russo!" She said, spreading her arms dramatically.

"Thank you for your warm welcome, Sasha." Lilliana Russo greeted, flashing a cordial smile.

"Our La signora is waiting for you. She had been asking about you all day." Sasha said with a bitter edge in her tone. Lily ignored it and followed her upstairs. They stopped before a wooden door. Sasha twisted the brass knob and pushed the door open for Lily to enter.

A frail old woman, tucked in a thick layer of silk bed sheets, slowly looked at Lily. For a moment, she blinked, and soon her weary eyes lit up in recognition. "Cara Mia! (My dear!) Here you are—!" The old lady broke out into a fit of violent coughs.

Lily sat on the chair nearest to the bed and opened her medical bag. Elena Salvadori's health had worsened over these past few days and she had been taking care of her treatments as a replacement for Dr. Steve, the previous family doctor who took care of Elena's medications.

"I heard you suddenly had a heavy fever." Lily's glossy brown eyes softened, along with her voice, as she pressed the stethoscope on Elena's back to monitor her weak heartbeat.

"How are you feeling right now?"

"My throat is killing me." Elena croaked, scratching an unbearable itch in her throat.

"I suggest not to stress your vocal cords by raising your voice and also—"

"You heard her. Please keep quiet and give yourself a good rest so you can get better again." Sasha scolded, her voice coming off harshly. Elena leaned back against the pillows, folding her arms and sulking like a child.

"Even a mild fever can be dangerous for her, so no more cold foods," Lily said, turning to Sasha, the housekeeper, and jotted some medicines for Elena to consume for the week.

"I'm tired of living like this, laying in bed all day like a useless rag doll. It's been ages since I took a stroll in my lovely garden." Elena grieved, letting out a deep, mournful sigh.

"Please have patience. You just need a little more time to recover, that's all." Lily held Elena's hand, which was once soft as a rose petal, now wrinkly, veiny, and thin with age.

Elena stared back at Lily's delicate facial features. "You... you remind me so much of my daughter-in-law. She was so gentle, just like you." She placed another hand over Lily's and said. "It would be a blessing if you marry my eldest grandson."

"I'm a Russo... I can't..." Lily reluctantly pulled her hand back.

"I should apologize for the feud... It was all my fault, but I want to end our enmity. That's why I want you to marry my grandson." Elena said, her weak, graying eyes pleading.

Lily lightly shook her head. "I'm not ready for a relationship—"

"You will change your mind once you meet my grandson. He's very handsome and charming, just like his grandfather was back in our youth—"

"Alright! That is enough! It's time for Dr. Russo to leave." Sasha narrowed her eyes at the old woman, almost threateningly. She appeared so cruel that Lily felt sorry for Elena, but Sasha was dedicated to her job, and sometimes, she had to be strict with the stubborn matriarch of the Salvatore household.

Given that Elena had become more childish and stubborn with age instead of growing wiser.

Lily rose to her feet, walked up to the door, paused at the doorstep, and faced Elena. "Take care."

Elena meekly nodded and closed her eyes to get some rest.

Once they were out, Sasha hurriedly closed the door. "Please don't listen to her. She is demented with age. She will stop talking about it once she is all better."

Lily nodded in agreement and left the Mansion.

Later that evening, Sasha entered the room with some vegetable soup for Elena.

"Why did you have to send her away like that!" Elena shouted, her voice coming out croaky.

"Because you are making an unreasonable demand! She is a Russo! What makes you think they will accept this alliance after all the bloodshed we've caused?" Sasha scolded and sat on the edge of the bed, neatly placing the food tray on the bed table so Elena could eat.

Elena grabbed the spoon from Sasha's hand and devoured the soup angrily. "Lilliana is kind, understanding. She doesn't hold any grudge against us and I think she will be a splendid match for my grandson."

"Let that woman live her life!" Sasha cried out, Elena Salvadori's stubbornness knows no bounds.

Supposedly, Elena was the one who pursued Nicolas Salvadori until he finally surrendered and accepted her as his wife. Later on, they had a long-lasting marriage until the Russos had Nicolas killed.

"It was my son who started it all! If only he hadn't tried to force her mother, he would have been alive today! Everyone would have lived!" Elena choked out, her tears pooling down from her eyes.

Sasha sat closer to her and rubbed the old woman's back. "Please leave Dr. Russo alone. She deserves someone who will love and cherish her. You are just being selfish and childish with your demands." Sasha said in a much softer voice as if coaxing a troubled child.

But the more she tried to persuade Elena, the more adamant she became. "I've heard the Russos were having a hard time with their business because of the bloody Armandos. I want to help them—no—I want my grandson to help them in exchange for Lilliana's hand in marriage."

"You can just help them without pressuring them into this alliance!" Sasha rolled her eyes in frustration and opened the drawer to take out the pills she will need for the night.

Elena placed the pill on her tongue and quickly chucked it down her throat with water before the bitter taste could blend into her tastebuds. She slammed the glass on the nightstand and said. "This alliance will take place through this marriage and that is final!"

world settings: The setting of the story is well-established, with the Salvatore and Russo families living in a luxurious mansion surrounded by lush gardens and plantations. The descriptions of the mansion, as well as the characters' clothing and mannerisms, give a strong sense of the wealth and status of these families. Additionally, the presence of the Mafia and the ongoing feud between the two families adds depth and complexity to the world of the story. One aspect of the worldbuilding that could be further developed is the cultural and historical context of the story. While there are hints of Italian heritage in the characters' names and the mention of traditional Italian meals, there is not much exploration of the cultural background of these families. Similarly, there is little mention of the time period in which the story takes place, which could be further elaborated upon to give more context to the characters' actions and decisions. Another area where the worldbuilding could be improved is in the depiction of the Mafia. While the Mafia's presence is acknowledged and plays a significant role in the story, there is not much exploration of the inner workings of the organization or the specific roles and responsibilities of its members. This could be further fleshed out to give a more nuanced understanding of the world in which the characters operate. Overall, the worldbuilding in these 16 chapters is solid, but there is room for further development and exploration of the cultural and historical context of the story, as well as the inner workings of the Mafia. Character development: The main character, Lilliana Russo, is introduced as a doctor who is dedicated to helping others, but is also hesitant to enter into a relationship due to the longstanding feud between the Salvatore and Russo families. As the story progresses, we see Lily become more entrenched in the Salvatore family and their Mafia dealings, and she is forced to confront the darker aspects of her own family's history. One of the standout character developments is the transformation of Elena Salvatore, the matriarch of the Salvatore household. Initially, she is presented as a stubborn and demanding old woman, but as her health deteriorates and she becomes more reliant on Lily's medical care, we see a more vulnerable and human side to her. This transformation is particularly poignant as Elena begs Lily to marry her grandson and end the feud between the two families, showing her desire for peace and unity despite the years of tension between them. The Salvatore men are also well-developed, with each one having distinct personalities and motivations. Enzo is the leader of the family and is known for his ruthlessness and decisive actions, which is demonstrated when he kills his own cousin, Marco, in a fit of anger. Leo is more level-headed and tries to act as a mediator between the two families, while Lucio and Luca provide some comic relief with their bickering and antics. Overall, the character development in these 16 chapters has been well-crafted and engaging, with each character having depth and complexity. Criticsm: The grammar in these 16 chapters is generally well-written, with only a few minor errors such as missing commas or misused words. However, there are a few instances where the sentence structure feels a bit awkward or confusing, causing some disruptions in the flow of the story. In particular, the use of dialogue can sometimes be unclear or unrealistic, with characters speaking in unnatural or choppy ways. The worldbuilding in these chapters is intriguing, with a clear focus on the Mafia and Italian culture. The descriptions of the Salvatore Mansion and the various family members add depth and authenticity to the story. However, there could be more development in terms of the history and dynamics of the Russo and Salvatore families, as well as the role of the Mafia in the larger society. The character development in these chapters is strong, with each character having their own distinct personality and motivations. However, some characters feel a bit underdeveloped, such as Elena Salvatore and Roberto Russo, who are mentioned but not fully fleshed out. Additionally, some characters, such as Carolina Salvatore and Rosalina Russo, feel overly one-dimensional and could benefit from more complexity in their actions and motivations. Psychological perspective: it is clear that the main character, Lilliana Russo, struggles with feelings of guilt and shame. One quote that demonstrates this is when Elena Salvatore tells her, "I should apologize for the feud that had cost your uncle's life... It was all my fault, but I want to end our enmity. That's why I want you to marry my grandson." Lily reluctantly pulls her hand back and says, "I'm a Russo... I can't..." This demonstrates that Lily feels a sense of responsibility for the feud between the Salvatores and the Russos, and that she doesn't feel worthy of being a part of the Salvatore family because of the conflict. Another quote that highlights Lily's psychological struggles is when Carolina accuses her of poisoning Elena, saying, "Isn't that right, Dr. Russo?" Lily's heart sinks at the accusation and she is about to defend herself when Enzo stands up and kills Marco, Carolina's son. This event leaves Lily in a state of shock and she is unable to speak or move as she watches Carolina wail over her son's body. This demonstrates that Lily is overwhelmed by the violence and conflict surrounding her, and that she feels helpless to change the situation. Overall, these quotes show that Lily struggles with feelings of guilt and shame, and that she feels overwhelmed by the violence and conflict in her life. Feedback: area that could be improved is the worldbuilding. While the setting of the novel is clearly established as a Mafia-controlled Italian community, there is limited description of the surroundings and cultural elements that could further immerse the reader in the story. For example, it would be helpful to have more details about the architecture and layout of the Salvatore Mansion, as well as more information about the customs and traditions of the Italian community. In terms of character development, it would be beneficial to delve deeper into the motivations and inner thoughts of the main characters. While there are hints of their personalities and backgrounds, there is room to explore their emotions and desires in greater depth. This could be achieved through the use of more internal monologue or through the inclusion of dialogue that reveals more about their personalities. I strongly believe that consistency is key when it comes to writing a novel. By consistently uploading chapters and maintaining a steady pace in the story's progression, readers are able to fully immerse themselves in the world and follow the character's journey without feeling disjointed or lost. It's important to remember that a reader's engagement with a story can greatly impact their overall enjoyment of it, so keeping them hooked and invested is crucial. With that being said, I encourage you to continue your novel and strive to keep your uploads consistent. Best wishes - BishopsNemesis
