Lisa's curiosity

"Aunt, please save me!" Her beauty was mediocre to begin with. If her face gets ruined, what hope does she have left?

A lot of people were yelling on top of their lungs at Lisa to stop, including her family who looked worried, but she was enjoying the fearful look on their faces. All of a sudden, she felt a warm embrace from behind. Then a soothing male voice drifted into her ear.

"Let her go."

Lisa stiffened. For some reason, the voice had a hypnotizing effect on it. Subconsciously, she let her hand relax and allowed the person to slowly pry the broken glass away from her hold.

Like a race, her heartbeat suddenly accelerated when his hot breath graced the side of her face like a feather.

"Thank you," he whispered close to her ear before the warmth that came from his embrace departed from her.

"Kim, are you alright?"

"Cousin, are you hurt? Did she cut you?"

Lisa was pulled back to reality when she heard different worried voices asking what she perceived as stupid questions. When she looked behind her to see the man who stopped her just now, she was stunned to realize he wasn't a man, but Kai!

Lisa's eyes widened. Was it her imagination? Kai's voice sounded like a man's! Her embrace also felt like a man's! While she was battling with her perception, someone yanked her arm and the next thing she knew…

"Smack!"

The slap resonated with the ringing sound in her eardrum.

Angered, Lisa was about to return the slap when she saw who it was.

"You evil creature! What sort of a heart do you have? How could you think of doing that to a fellow human? Mr. Yun," she turned in her husband's direction and pointed at Lisa. "Is this the type of daughter-in-law you could get for me? Over my dead body!" Madam Yun thundered.

Lisa frowned and covered her right ear that was slapped. She could feel severe pain, like her eardrum was about to explode. She hissed and was about to walk away from the circle of people when her stepmother ran in front of her.

"Lisa, what have you done? Apologize to your future mother-in-law," the woman panicked.

"Apologize? What are you saying, mom? They…" she pointed at Kylie and her cousin sister who was nestling in Madam Yun's embrace. "I heard them talking about splashing acid on Kai's face. I might be bad, but I still know that act to be vile!"

"What?" Some people frowned when they heard that and shot a glare at Kylie and Kim.

Kim immediately took a defense stance and cried out. "Aunt, she's lying. I didn't do anything like that. She came upon Kylie and I when we were discussing why Cousin Brother shouldn't marry her. Then she grew angry and wanted to ruin my face."

Madam Yun glared at Lisa and voiced out. "I can tolerate your shenanigan but this has gone too far! An attempt to ruin my niece's face and also pin such a lie against her, I will never tolerate that!"

Lisa sighed and shook her head. "Before you start to defend them, why don't you search her bag? The acid is in a white bottle."

"Aunt, she's lying." Kim quickly took her bag from Kylie and poured the contents on the table. No white bottle could be found anywhere. Even Kylie threw her things on the table too. There was only makeup stuff in there.

"See, there's nothing like that… Lisa, I know that you hate me and still blame Kylie and I for what happened five years ago. But this is too much! Kai is also a Yun by fostering. How could you even think that we would harbor such thoughts?"

After listening to Kim, most of the guests started cussing Lisa with whatever derogatory remark popped in their minds. At first, they were soft with their words but when they saw that Madam Yun was fuming with rage, they didn't need anyone to tell them what their next step should be.

After all, the woman had just said she doesn't want Lisa as her daughter-in-law anymore. To become friends with the ruling family, they have to suck up to them.

Lisa chuckled. "If you're so sure of yourself, why don't we request for the CCTV footage? I'm sure one captured your evil act."

"Lisa!" Madam Yun roared.

"Sister, please stop it." Lisa's sister held her arm and shook her head gently, then bit her lip and looked at Lisa with poppy eyes. She looked cute and innocent!

Lisa sighed and resigned. "Whatever. Do what makes you happy since no one cares for the truth anyway." She sneered and left the party. Her ear was hurting very badly and she needed to see a doctor ASAP.

Mr. Yun, who was standing at a distance with the men, glanced at Lisa's father without uttering a word. But his expression said more than enough.

After Lisa left, Kai also followed. Whatever happened in the party after that, the two couldn't care less.

Lisa arrived at the parking lot in haste. Just as she was about to open her car door, the same male voice drifted into her ears again.

"Are you heading to the hospital? I can take you."

She whipped her head back to see the gorgeous and trouble-free Kai standing behind her. She took a deep breath to stabilize her erratic heartbeat before she asked: "When did you get here?"

"Just now."

Now, this voice was different from what she just heard. Lisa is someone who would lay all her cards down if something was bothering her, so she asked:

"I've heard you use a male voice twice. Don't think about telling me it's my imagination. What gender are you?"

"My gender is what you think it is," he replied in a girl's voice.

Lisa frowned. Kai's response was too ambiguous. Aside from her long curly hair and gorgeous face, what else makes her come off as a girl? The more Lisa thought of it, the more her ear hurt. She didn't want to believe that Kai is a transgender like everyone is saying.

After all, she's a victim of misunderstanding and knows exactly how it feels to be hated for what you didn't do. If Kai is a transgender, she wants to hear it from her mouth.

"Kai, right?" she asked and he nodded.

"Are you a transgender?"

"Your ear is bleeding." Kai ignored the question and closed the distance between them. He took the car key from her and ordered. "Get in. I'll take you to the hospital."

The palpitation of Lisa's heart quickened again when they made skin contact as he took the car keys from her. Lisa quickly took her hand back after giving him the keys.

This is strange! She thought.
