It was raining. That's what woke him up. The rough rain and thunder outside. The revving of engines constantly leaving the apartment complex. This was home; Mors Tiones.
Will looked at his clock, it read six o'clock.
"Almost time for work... again," he muttered as he pulled his blanket over his face.
The blanket pushed his long curly black hair back. Every day, he woke up with a new hairstyle.
He drifted off to sleep and fell into the middle of an abyss. The abyss was oblivion, but it didn't invite a sense of danger. It felt comforting and free.
There was peace until... BRRR! BRRR! BRRR!
The sound of an alarm clock rang throughout his apartment.
"Ugh, shut up!" Will yelled. The bed creaked as he fell off of it and onto the old carpet. He shoved his digital clock off of his nightstand aggressively. His head fell onto its side when he read the clock when it fell to the ground.
It was eight o'clock.
"Wow, I actually got up on time," he said. Will got up and walked to his bathroom. The rain was still falling as he opened the door to his bathroom.
As he walked in, he sighed and watched the nightly roaches crawl across the tile. He grabbed his toothbrush out of a cup and his half-filled toothpaste.
While he was brushing, the light flickered, and then it went out. "Crappy, just like everything else here," he said frustratingly.
He walked over to his blinds and lifted them up. "What the-?" he said as a power line outside tilted and water was rising slowly. Sparks flew and hit the water.
"3rd floor privilege," he mumbled, still brushing his teeth. He had implied that anyone else's room would be flooded by now.
He stared out the window looking at the falling rain; then his phone rang. He snatched it off of his nightstand and looked at the screen.
It was his boss.
"Hello?" William said.
"Well hello William, I just wanted to let you know you don't need to go to the warehouse tonight or tomorrow night. Just get some rest, goodbye," said Will's boss.
He was an old man who ran the warehouse Will worked at, and he always changed the way he spoke towards different people. This time, he spoke professionally.
"Okay bye," said Will as he hung up the phone and placed it back on his nightstand. He flopped onto his bed and closed his eyes, and tried to fall asleep.
