Chapter 1Birth Of The Terrace Twin

"Hey! Have you heard?" Within the confines of a large opulent and wealth radiating room, a lady asked. She was blessed with brown hair tied into a bun and dressed in attires of color black and white. Around her bun was a white ribbon use to hold the bun perfectly in place and shape. Her smooth skin and face was a sign of her young age.

The lady's pair of dark eyes peered into the other person's eyes present in the room with her. "What? There's news?" The other figure, another lady dressed in the same attire but slightly shorter, responded with a question.

She was prettier than the first lady with a similar brown hair also tied into a bun. Her bright brown eyes stared back at the lady standing opposite her.

Even as they communicated, their voices were barely audible, mere whispers as they were afraid of being overhead.

"I guess you wouldn't know yet since it'll only be announced in a day's time but I'll share it with you now," The first maid looked around as she spoke. She was being wary of her surroundings.

Whatever she was about to say, it was very important for both parties and could very well jeopardise their positions if overhead.

"Tell me, tell me!" The second lady said, her voice still a whisper only the first lady could hear. She leaned in closer as the first lady had gestured.

The first lady placed her mouth close to the second one's ear and whispered words that made the second one gasp in surprise. "Lady Terrace has just delivered a set of twin boys."

The shock was evident on the face of the second lady as she asked with a subtle smile. "Are you certain of this information?"

The first lady grinned, raising her head high. "You're aware my mother works as a senior servant of this household, isn't that so?"

In response to the first lady's question, the second lady nodded obediently, leading the first lady to continue. "She took care of the delivery along with two midwives some hours ago."

Hearing this, the second lady wore a wide smile that mirrored the first lady's. "That makes it the third pair of twins for the Terrace family. That makes this a thing of joy!"

The first lady nodded along, feeling accomplished after sharing sensitive information of the Terrace family.

Before they could continue their discussion, the door to the room swung open and another figure, a male stood there. "Maid Sheryl and Lyra, Lady Reyla requests both your presences."

After delivering the information to the two ladies who turned out to be maids, the man walked away, leaving the door open.

Both ladies stood, frozen on the spot at the mention of Lady Reyla. There was a brief moment of shock before the ladies finally turned to stare at each other. "It's just a coincidence. Yes, a coincidence!" The first one said with a nod.

"Let's not waste any more seconds and head out then." The second one added and quickly, both figures exited the room, closing the door shut behind them as they made their way to the abode of revered Lady Reyla.

Lady Reyla was one of the highest ranking individuals of the Terrace family whose name spoke fear into the hearts of the maids.

She was strict and appeared cold whenever she was seen walking around.

The maids finally arrived in front of a large triangle shaped door.

"Come in," one of the most attractive female voices echoed from within the room beyond the door.

Maid Sheryl, the first maid who'd provided the information pushed the door open and both of them walked into the room side by side, holding each other's hands.

The room that presented itself before them was way larger than the one they'd been in before and was filled with different things that made it even more attractive. A king sized bed at the far end of the room, two large bookshelves, two large wardrobes with intricate flower designs, a few small drawers placed in different parts of the room—two of which were by the sides of the bed.

At the centre of the room was the fur and head of a lion-like beast. The head looked almost alive as it stared at the two young ladies that had just walked in.

About a meter and half from the bed was a large door that led to a balcony and on the balcony was a table and a few chairs. It was also filled with vases of various flowers.

Spotting the figure sitting on one of the chairs on the balcony, Sheryl and Lyra proceeded toward the balcony. "You called for us, Lady Reyla." Sheryl said with a bow. Lyra also bowed out of respect for Lady Reyla who simply stared at them as they performed the greeting expected of their position.

Lady Reyla simply nodded after the two ladies finished bowing toward her. "Come closer." She commanded with her charming voice and the ladies immediately obeyed, their eyes fixed on the floor.

This was their first private encounter with her and they didn't want to mess it up one way or another. They heard rumors of how strict she was after all in private and wanted to be of best behaviour.

"Look at me." Another command went out of the lips of Lady Reyla but this time, the ladies in front of her contemplated obeying the command.

"I said raise your heads and look at me." She repeated, her voice tinged with a trace of impatience.

The ladies finally raised their heads and the face before them made their hearts skip a bit.

Round blue eyes and woven silver hair that flowed down her back, smooth white skin and peach lips, round small face that was just the perfect size for her petite body structure. she looked even younger than the two maids before her. She was dressed in a silver gown similar to the maids.

Although Sheryl and Lyra had seen her before, neither of them had seen her this close.

"You'll stare me to death with those eyes." Lady Reyla chuckled, staring back at the girls with her ocean blue eyes.

"Our apologies!" Lyra bowed first and Sheryl followed. When they finally raised their heads, they avoided eye contact with Reyla.

"It seems like the rumor of my elder brother giving birth to his own set of twins have already started spreading." Reyla said with a straight face.

However, when Sheryl and Lyra heard the words she'd spoken, they froze, too scared to move.

They immediately knew she'd overheard them. Eager to clarify the situation, Sheryl quickly spoke first. "Lady Reyla, that's not…"

"That's not why I called you both here though." Reyla interrupted Sheryl's sentence.

"Pardon?" Sheryl asked with a perplexed expression. Lyra on the other hand, remained silent as though she wasn't even in the room or even a part of the conversation. As a newly hired maid, she was too scared to speak and risk getting fired or worse, persecuted.

"Look at my hair. It's rough and their ceremony is only six days away. I need you both to remake it." Reyla said with a shrug. She gestured for both ladies to move closer which they immediately did.

"Make it very neat and I won't have to punish you both for sharing information that's yet to be official." Reyla warned and they immediately rushed to begin work.

"Yes, Lady Reyla!"

GlaringError here! As I have already mentioned in my author review I am restating it here since I am getting tons of comments about it, that I am more of a reader myself than a writer, I made this novel in an attempt to capture my fantasy world residing in my mind into words.. Writing is new for me.. The premise of my novel is inspired by many great works that I have loved over the years. And some elements I have in my novel that are slightly similar to them but it's just the skeleton of it, the real meat of the plot is entirely my own cooking. Some of the influence that is more noticeable is from The Runesmith (By Kuropon), The King's Avatar (By Butterfly Blue) and Shadow Slave (By Guiltythree). I have immense respect for these legends and I can only hope to follow in their footsteps. To all those who comment just by judging the name, at least give it a chance before letting your opinions be known. Thank you.

The novel starts strong and builds a solid foundation... Only to build the story in a completely different area. Interesting premise and writing style. The author focuses on the 2 brother's storline utilizing the different circumstances of each to build the world and write the lore. The contrast is further used to go from micro to macro and from personal to political. Great usage and contrast. The concept is similar to RR Martin's Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones) though this one is a web novel version and isnt as professionally done. Thats it for the good parts of this novel. Where this novel falls short is on focus and continuity. The set up at the start was great and would have been interesting if there was a follow through. The abandonment and trechery with lies should have had more impact on the characters but apart for setting there doesnt seem to be much effect on their personalities and character development. 1 MC was sentenced to death and seems to quickly recover and is too trusting too fast with people, there seems to be little to no trauma considering all that abuse and injustice. Its almost the same with the 2nd MC with everything being resolved by his bilief and hope that his brother survived and the flimsy and simple justification of 'would you have allowed it' reasoning for filicide (parent killing their child). Then theres the setting, sending a child to an academy and underutilizing the theme. The academy setting felt wasted and unnecessary quickly followed by politics meetings to arrange meeting. The forest of death quickly became the forest of looting and levelling up and all the built up tension was lost. In short the author planted too many seeds too early resulting in what feels like forgettable chapters and mini arcs. The beasts are unique from each other but familiar in lore which is the result of good choices from the author. Theres personality with each one but not enough that it fills the novel excessively. The author also doesnt fall into the temptation of making them too overpowered or pulling out world breaking mythical beasts left and right. This novel has great potential and I am invested in reading further in hopes of it getting better. Planning for main and subplots and relating that to character development definitely needs work however the writing style and world building leaves enough room to recover. The strengths definitely make up for the foils.

TL;DR Started off interesting but the bad and frequent POV switches, especially later on in the story, the weird interactions between the mc and others and his almost obsessive need to follow a girl he barely knows, really take the joy out of the story. Writing quality. 4.5/5 Updating stability: 3/5 Story development: 3/5 Character design: 4/5 World BG: 5/5 Story started off quite interestingly. I really enjoyed the first 60-ish chapters and most of the following 100. But it all went downhill after the mc left the forest. Frequent POV changes to characters that take way too much screen time, mc‘s interactions with others, it all just feels weird, for a lack of better word. I still don‘t understand his obsession with staying in Westmont and that girl from there. Now he wants to follow her even after she leaves the village? Why? Nothing about their interaction gives me a hint of closeness, familiarity or love, if you will. It just feels like Damien imprinted on the first female he talked to for more than 10 minutes after his exile in the wilds and now follows her around like a lost little puppy. The interaction with others is also somewhat weird. In one second he doesn‘t want to get too close to acquaintances and keeps them at arms lenght and then cares deeply for people he met for a couple of minutes and their well being. He knows he‘s still weak, relatively speaking, and should hunt more demons to further bolster his strength but he got lost in side quests and keeps on pushing back the hunt. We keep getting teased about his reunion with his family, and maybe revenge on his father for his exile, which i really doubt, but no one knows when that happens. I also completely lost interest in his twin brother. Honestly, i skimmed most of the chapters where the focus shifts to him and just read the dialogue and i can say with absolute certainty that i don‘t care. His journey could‘ve been explained in their reunion in two short chapters and my level of enthusiasm would way higher. It really is such a shame. I found this novel quite early on but now reading new chapters feel morre like a chore than pleasure. I‘ve seen this happen with a lot of authors, shattered innocence, for example. They start off strong, and after some hundred chapters, the authors get caught in details and POV‘s of people no one cares about and excessive description of useless things. A common rock will be explained into detail because their descriptive writing improves but the story then suffers. It then becomes common to use 1/3 or 1/4 of a chapter to describe the background, a house, castle ect. I am still not sure if this happens unintentionally or they just use their newfound skills to inflate the word counts, but from what i‘ve seen from the most successful novels on this platform, those that use excessive filler will tend to be forgotten quite fast. Anyway, even though i‘ll end my reading here, i wish jou the best of luck.

Alright. Before I get into the review, I want to speak on how long I subtly and directly put off reading this novel because of the other reviews. About 3 weeks ago I believe is when I first added this to my library, but the reviews put me off. During this time, naturally I read many other novels, and reviewed even more. Today I decided that I would give this novel a chance, and what do you know? The negative reviews have to be created by people with a waterlogged brain. ColumbusOhio raises complaints about the lack of special training of units despite knowing the war is coming and the treatment of the MC’s mother toward his father despite what happened (will try not to spoil). The first part is simply answered with: Resources. They don’t have an infinite holy grail to raise people. The next is simply human greed. Humans are always shitty, you can count on that, even during times of near-war. As for his mother; this is just….men who have power tend to always treat women poorly. Even in our world this is true throughout history. It’s expected that a woman still performs her “duty” even if the father cuts down his son and eats his heart. Although the father is not to that point, that’s just the expectations of women. Learn and be better idk. Sea_detective_85 and DJ_Titus have nearly identical complaints and they are the primary reason I put off reading this novel for so long, and they, in my opinion, severely undermine and give awful reviews. Yes, the MC is in a forest for a long time. No, he can’t “just leave the continent” you seem to have not paid attention or underestimate the problem of leaving the forest. No the brother is not “basically the MC”. I’ve read past when he gets out of the forest, and we saw plenty of Damien, Damon, and overarching events. I usually also dislike time spent away from the MC, but I found it was done pretty well here. It’s incredibly common for MCs to go on training arcs where they have no one to talk to, yet it’s suddenly a problem here? Also, everyone else is getting the MC treatment? Genuinely I’d like to say some very unkind words towards this person’s intelligence. The MC in the current chapter of where I am has dwarfed his younger brother and everyone I have met, except for the obvious older generation. Slight spoiler; Damon has slayed 50ish monsters, with the majority being mana beasts and demons accounting for 12 I think. Damien has killed well over a thousand of both at this point. Academies are good and all, but flowers grown in greenhouses don’t always last in the wild. My only real complaint is that there are some spelling typos within the novel which I can easily read past, and that i’m running out of chapters :(
